back yard garden connected to double height living room

[balance of intimacy and independency] This connected house shared a garden space around its perimeter. To cater for the function of sharing the house for four spring off families, we shifted the house in an zig-zag configuration and splitting the loop shaped garden into two L shape front yard and back yard for two duplex units on ground floor. Each garden has more generous and flexible space for parking and outdoor activities. Each house also has better privacy and architectural identity from typical village house. The double height space of the duplex unit opens the view toward the garden, while the semi covered porch area extended the indoor activities to the backyard seamlessly. This house is exploring the inter-connectivity of the siblings families, yet finding a balance between intimacy and independency.
